ABV worked with Fraser Coast Advocacy and Inclusion Inc. (FCAI Inc.) through a Skilled Business engagement to help strengthen the organisation’s foundations and clarify its future direction. The focus was on developing an inclusive, member‑led strategy grounded in the lived experience of people with disability. The result was a practical Strategic Plan for 2026–2029 that is ambitious without being unrealistic, and that provides a clear pathway for meaningful, long‑term change on the Fraser Coast.
Listening to members was central to the engagement. Surveys, online workshops and a facilitated face‑to‑face session in Hervey Bay created multiple ways for people to share their experiences and priorities.
These contributions shaped a shared vision for a resilient and inclusive community where people with disability are empowered and heard. Throughout the process, members highlighted systemic barriers such as limited access, transport challenges and exclusion from decision‑making, while also identifying opportunities to strengthen local advocacy, leadership and community participation.
Many reflected that the process felt respectful and that their perspectives were accurately represented.
The in‑person workshop, supported through the Resilient CARE program, allowed for deeper discussion and stronger connections. Held in a fully accessible local workplace, the session brought together FCAI members, carers and staff from ABV and The Good Shift to refine priorities and focus on how the strategy could be put into action.
From this work, four clear areas of focus emerged: influencing systems and services, engaging and educating the community, strengthening advocacy, and building robust governance and organisational sustainability.
The completed Strategic Plan gives FCAI Inc. a solid platform for action. With clear measures of success and a commitment to regular review, it supports the organisation to build partnerships, strengthen leadership by people with disability and play a stronger role in shaping a more inclusive Fraser Coast. With ABV’s skilled support, FCAI is well placed to move from planning to implementation and to turn lived experience into lasting influence and impact.
