Sharing Skills and Learning on Gunaikurnai Country

The team at Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) deliver programs that support Country, culture and community across Gippsland. Their work includes caring for land and Sea Country, protecting cultural heritage, creating employment opportunities and strengthening cultural knowledge for future generations. Recently, we had the opportunity to work alongside GLaWAC staff through a practical workshop focused on project management skills.

Designed around GLaWAC's existing projects, systems and ways of working, the workshop used real examples and everyday challenges to explore approaches to planning and project delivery.
The project management workshop covered topics such as planning projects, managing budgets, tracking milestones and identifying risks.

The workshops drew on the expertise of ABV Skilled Business Professional Lachlan Duncan, whose background spans project management, business improvement, strategy and organisational development. Throughout the sessions, Lachlan shared practical tools, ideas and experiences that participants could adapt to suit their own work.

Just as importantly, the workshops created opportunities for conversation and shared learning. GLaWAC staff brought their own experience and insights from working across a wide range of programs, while discussions focused on finding practical solutions that could be applied in day-to-day work.

As we celebrate Indigenous Business Month, it is also a chance to recognise the important work being led by organisations such as GLaWAC. Through its work on Country, GLaWAC continues to create positive outcomes for community, culture and the environment while maintaining strong connections to traditional lands and waters.

ABV thanks GLaWAC for welcoming the us onto Gunaikurnai Country and for generously sharing their knowledge and perspectives. We also thank Lachlan Duncan for volunteering his time and expertise in support of this work.
